Agriculture
Agriculture drives Wisconsin's economy and plays a central role in our state heritage. We wear our badge as “America’s Dairyland” proudly and for good reason. The agriculture industry contributes $104.8 billion annually to our state’s economy and creates 435,700 jobs annually.
I've made it a priority in Congress to advance legislative solutions that are good for our nation and for our farmers. I co-sponsored HR 1147, the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act, which eliminates red tape and enables schools to provide more milk varieties to students, including whole, reduced-fat, low-fat, and fat-free flavored milk to students. I’m proud to report that this legislation passed the House with my support and is now pending action in the U.S. Senate.
I also co-introduced H.R. 1803, the CURD Act, which establishes a statutory definition for “natural cheese,” a term that is commonly used but has no official definition. This legislation will enhance consumer transparency and help people make informed decisions when purchasing high-quality Wisconsin cheeses.
Last, but not least, I cosponsored H.R. 4894 in support of the Dairy Business Innovation (DBI) Under the Agricultural Marketing Service, the DBI Initiatives support dairy businesses in the development, production, marketing, and distribution of dairy products. The DBI Initiatives provide critical direct technical assistance and subawards to dairy businesses.
I will continue working to promote legislation to strengthen agricultural programs, increase job opportunities, lower food costs, and ensure our farmers have the security needed to protect their businesses and provide food for the nation. Setting Wisconsin farmers up for success is a top priority of mine.
