Fitzgerald Votes to Hold Garland in Contempt of Congress

June 13, 2024

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) issued the following statement after voting to pass H. Res. 1292 to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in Contempt of Congress.

“It’s very simple, the Judiciary Committee issued a subpoena with legitimate legislative purpose and Attorney General Garland has willfully refused to comply. This willful refusal constitutes contempt of Congress and warrants prosecution as prescribed by law,” said Rep. Fitzgerald. “I do not trust the White House for a second when they tell Congress that the DOJ-created and -produced transcripts ofPresident Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Hur are accurate and complete. Especially considering the White House was just caught doctoring an official transcript to hide a verbal slip from President Biden. The Committee needs the audio tape to continue its impeachment investigation into the President, and I expect AG Garland and the DOJ to comply or face the consequences.”
