Fitzgerald Responds to Reports of Two Afghan Refugees Charged with Child Sex, Spousal Abuse Crimes

September 24, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) issued the following statement regarding the troubling reports of two Afghan refugees being charged with child sex and spousal abuse crimes alleged to have been committed at Fort McCoy.

“The reports of child sex and spousal abuse crimes occurring at Fort McCoy are as horrifying as they were preventable. These reports validate the concerns many in Wisconsin have about the vetting process— concerns of which Governor Evers has referred to as ‘dog whistle crap.’ This disgusting crime is a glimpse at what can go wrong when refugees are not engaged with a proper vetting process. Governor Evers and President Biden need to pay attention and fix this broken logjam process, we cannot risk the safety of more people,” said Congressman Fitzgerald.
